Loco Video Games Streaming and Esports Platform Lays Off 40 Staff Members

Loco, one of India’s leading video games streaming and esports broadcast platforms, has recently laid off 40 staff members out of its 110 employees. The company has made this decision in order to focus on transaction-based monetization and ensure its long-term health and sustainability.

Strategic Review and Layoffs

The company has confirmed the layoff reports and stated that this decision is part of a recent strategic review. Loco founders Anirudh Pandita and Ashwin Suresh announced the layoffs during a meeting with employees and emphasized the need to operate with a leaner cost structure.

Loco has also canceled „non-core initiatives” for the time being and has retained just enough people to pursue core functions. This decision reflects the company’s commitment to focusing on transaction-based monetization and long-term sustainability.

Layoffs Related to Decline in Daily Active Users

According to reports, Loco’s daily active users have declined recently, and the company’s newly launched VIP program is not generating enough revenue. Despite this, the company has seen significant growth in metrics over the last two months, notably due to the VIP program and the Sky Championship 5.0 esports series.

Sky Championship 5.0 is a recently held esports series featuring a BGMI and Counter-Strike 2 tournament, which involved some of the country’s best esports teams. Loco was the exclusive streaming partner for this tournament series organized by Skyesports.

Largest User Base and VIP Program

Loco’s founder has stated that the company has six million monthly active users and 800,000 daily active users. Regarding the VIP program, 3% of these users are subscribers of the premium membership. Despite the recent layoffs, Loco remains focused on its core functions and strategic monetization to ensure its future sustainability.
