AMD Radeon RX 7000 series graphics card owners who have enabled AMD’s new Anti-Lag+ technology are facing VAC bans in popular games such as Counter-Strike 2, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Warzone, and Apex Legends. This issue arises because Anti-Lag+ technology is interfering with DLL files, which violates Valve’s anti-cheating policies. The banning is a result of the stricter measures game developers have implemented to combat cheating through direct integration with the graphics pipeline.
AMD Anti-Lag+ vs. NVIDIA GeForce RTX Reflex Low Latency
AMD’s Anti-Lag+ technology is causing these problems, but NVIDIA Reflex Low Latency technology is not. NVIDIA’s Reflex is not integrated at the driver level; instead, it is added individually by game developers as a separate library. Consequently, NVIDIA graphics card owners can rest assured that they won’t face VAC bans.
Potential Solution and AMD’s Response
AMD recommends Radeon RX 7000 series graphics card owners to disable Anti-Lag+ technology in Counter-Strike 2 until a fix is released. This fix is expected to come in the form of a hotfix driver followed by a comprehensive driver update that resolves these issues permanently. While it is understandable that users should not have to disable the technology, it seems to be the only current workaround until AMD rectifies the situation.
The Scope of the Problem
It is important to note that this issue only affects owners of Radeon RX 7000 series GPUs, specifically based on Navi 3X architecture. Users of other Radeon GPUs are not affected. By simply disabling Anti-Lag+ technology, affected users can avoid VAC bans. However, it is expected that AMD will swiftly address this problem and provide a long-term solution.
